Panmela Castro
In the conception of Panmela Castro's Affective Drift, life is guided by meetings by chance, in a process of feeling liberated to float. Moments of encountering that are aleatory and others that were already written. In this series, the artist let herself go by a movement in territories in which she is taken by a network of affections she builds as she goes.
_______
Clara's Instagram print.
In the residency series I visit people in their homes and I spend time there, sometimes a few hours, sometimes even living for days. From this exchange, works arise that range from affective objects to the residents' own paintings.
Clara is a feminist writer of mine for a long time. Months and months before, I arranged with Clara to spend some time with her painting. We plan to paint your cats and friends, plus a large painting of Clara at Poledance. On the scheduled date, one day she was at the bar, another in the yard… and I was there, with my things in my suitcase, waiting for the pretty one to receive me.
It is obvious that we had a fight and even more obvious that the fight gave rise to countless pieces of this lapse of waiting and nervousness. But what's obvious is that at the end of this one, which I started calling “No Residency”, we continued to love each other and laugh about the period.
